Template

The below is a community member's testimony.  Feel free to use it, something of your own, or something as simple as as  "I oppose LD 1356, and "it ought not to pass." To get other wording ideas, as online testimony is submitted for this bill, you can see it here:https://legislature.maine.gov/ctl/VLA/04-14-2025?panel=1&time=0&sortdir=0&sortby=2 after clicking on the bill number.

I oppose LD 1356 “An Act to Change the State's Method of Allocating Electoral Votes from a Congressional District Method to a Winner-take-all Method Contingent on the State of Nebraska Changing its Method of Allocating Electoral Votes.”

Our current electoral vote system allows CD 1 and CD 2 to each have a voice in our Presidential elections.  This is a fair and equitable method.  CD 2 is rural and mainly conservative; CD 1 is urban and mainly progressive.

The existing system that has been in place since 1972, allows our vastly rural state to have a say in the Presidential election.  A Republican candidate for President typically takes CD 2.

This bill has been put forward by legislators from largely urban centers, which in my opinion disenfranchises the voters living in rural areas of our state, such as CD 2.

I oppose LD 1356 and it “ought not to pass.”
