[Due ASAP] Maine - Red Flag Hearing [Update]

On Wednesday, June 25th, the Joint Standing Committee will hold a work session and vote on Bloomberg's radical Red Flag Referendum. At this work session, lawmakers have the opportunity to send the referendum question to the floor to pass the bill through the legislative bodies, adopt a countermeasure, or send the ballot question directly to Maine voters. NRA members and Second Amendment advocates are urged to contact their lawmakers and encourage them to oppose efforts to implement this extreme gun control measure.

[Due ASAP] Maine - Ranked Choice Voting

Democrats in the Legislature are trying to ram through an unconstitutional bill to expand ranked-choice voting to state-level general elections. This comes after the Maine Supreme Court decided years ago that ranked-choice voting violates the Maine Constitution’s requirement that the winner of these races be determined by a “plurality” of the votes. That's how we ended up using ranked-choice voting for some elections but not others. How are they side-stepping the Maine Supreme Court’s ruling? By simply redefining what “plurality” means in Maine law.You can’t make this stuff up!The legislative majority is so afraid of losing power next year that they’re trying to pull a fast one on Maine’s highest court. We can’t let them succeed.Take action today and visit the Maine Policy Institute website here to urge your elected representatives to oppose LD 1666.If this bill passes and becomes law, next year’s elections will be mired in lawsuits. Mainers won’t know for weeks or months who is representing them in Augusta or the Blaine House.Thank you for your continued support and advocacy throughout this legislative session. Please share this email with anyone you know who may take action as well, and encourage them to sign up for future emails from Maine Policy by visiting mainepolicy.org. [Source: Maine Policy Institute Email.]

[Due ASAP] Maine - Red Flag Hearing

On Monday, June 2nd, Maine lawmakers held a press conference with representatives from the NRA, Gun Owners of Maine, and the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine to call on the Senate President and Speaker of the House to hold a public hearing on the Red Flag ballot question. Under Maine law, all ballot initiatives are required to undergo a public hearing. However, Senator Anne Carney, the Chair of the Judiciary Committee, has blocked such requests from her fellow lawmakers in an attempt to silence citizens who are critical of this extreme gun control proposal. This tactic should come as no surprise, as Senator Carney has utilized a litany of underhanded tactics to advance the gun control agenda, including blocking votes on a repeal of Maine's waiting period law and silencing expert testimony from pro-gun speakers.

The bill has been enacted into law in 17 states and Washington D.C. for a total of 209 electoral votes, with 61 more electoral votes to go.
