Template

The below is a community member's testimony.  Feel free to use it, something of your own, or something as simple as as  "I support LD 1222, and "it ought to pass." To get other wording ideas, as online testimony is submitted for this bill, you can see it here: https://legislature.maine.gov/ctl/JUD/03-31-2025?panel=1&time=1&sortdir=0&sortby=2 after clicking on the bill number.

I support LD 1222 “An Act to Limit Sovereign Immunity for Schools and School Superintendents.”

Among other things, this bill removes immunity under the Maine Tort Claims Act for school superintendents, school administrative units or schools within the school administrative unit's jurisdiction for certain conduct, including negligence, violations of state or federal education law, failure to ensure student safety, failure to report abuse of, neglect of or threats to a student, willful misconduct or criminal activity.

Our children deserve better.  Immunity for school officials must end, and accountability restored.

I support LD 1222, and it “ought to pass.”
