The below is a community member's testimony. Feel free to use it, something of your own, or something as simple as as "I support LD 252 and LD 1373, and "they ought to pass." To get other wording ideas, as online testimony is submitted for this bill, you can see it here:https://legislature.maine.gov/ctl/VLA/04-14-2025?panel=0&time=0&sortdir=0&sortby=2 after clicking on the bill number.
I support LD 252 “An Act to Withdraw from the National Popular Vote Compact” and LD 1373 “An Act to Repeal the National Popular Vote Compact.”
Maine has the unique distinction, along with Nebraska, of splitting our four electoral votes during a Presidential election. Two for the state popular vote winner, and one electoral vote each for the popular vote winner in CD 1 and CD 2. I see there is legislation pending to take that away (i.e. LD 1356). Further proof that the current legislature is trying to silence us.
Maine has had a fair and equitable system of distributing our four electoral votes since 1972. This system allows our vastly rural state to have a say in the Presidential election.
This National Popular Vote compact dilutes our state’s say in determining a President, as larger urban population centers will determine a President, and our four electoral votes will be cast accordingly.
We Mainers lose our voice.
I support LD 252 and LD 1373 and they “ought to pass.”
