The below is a community member's testimony.  Feel free to use it, something of your own, or something as simple as as  "I oppose LD 1422, and "it ought not to pass." To get other wording ideas, as online testimony is submitted for this bill, you can see it here: https://legislature.maine.gov/ctl/VLA/04-16-2025?panel=0&time=0&sortdir=0&sortby=2 after clicking on the bill number.

I oppose LD 1422 “An Act Regarding Open Primary Elections and Ranked-choice Voting.”

Everyone votes in the primary using the exact same ballot. All candidates no matter their party/affiliation are listed on the ballot. Using this method means that multiple candidates from the same political party could appear on the general election ballot while other parties may be left off entirely.  Imagine that, only candidates from one party advance to the general election ballot?

This system sounds like free-for-all, intended to send a single party to the general election, with Ranked Choice Voting thrown in to further confuse the voter, and provide artificial majorities for some candidates.

I oppose LD 1422 and it “ought not to pass.”
