The below is a community member's testimony. Feel free to use it, something of your own (recommended), or something as simple as as "I support LD 208, LD 1062, and LD 1230 and they "ought to pass."
I support LD 208, LD 1062, and LD 1230. Repeal the 72 hr waiting period and advertised private firearms sales background checks.
The mandatory 72-hour waiting period is an attack on law-abiding Maine citizens, and a direct violation of our Maine Constitutional rights, specifically Article 1, Section 16: “To keep and bear arms. Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned.”
A right delayed is a right denied. This will be proven when Maine loses the current lawsuit against this unconstitutional law.
Currently, “advertised” private firearm sales require a background check and firearm transfer by a licensed FFL. This legislation was passed last session.
Maine is one of the safest states in the nation. This is a solution looking for a problem that Maine does not have.
I support LD 208, LD 1062, and LD 1230 and they “ought to pass.”
