[Due ASAP] Maine - LD 260 - Constitutional Amendment (Equal Rights)

Published on 22 April 2025 at 12:30

Background

This is a good read from the Maine Wire concerning this bill!!  https://www.themainewire.com/2025/04/house-democrats-spring-surprise-measure-to-enshrine-trans-rights-in-maines-constitution/

LD 260 "RESOLUTION, Proposing an Amendment to the Constitution of Maine to Establish That All Maine Residents Have Equal Rights Under the Law" has been voted out of committee as a "Divided Report". A Majority Report (voted ought to pass as amended) and a Minority Report (voted ought not to pass.)  A House roll call vote advanced the Majority Report, and the bill will now go to the Senate floor for a vote.  Then, back to the House.

Our emails to our Senators and Representatives must be to the point.  WE WANT TO SUPPORT THE MINORITY REPORT, AND THIS MUST BE IN THE SUBJECT LINE!!

SUBJECT:  Please support the Minority Report (voted the bill "ought not to pass"), for LD 260 "RESOLUTION, Proposing an Amendment to the Constitution of Maine to Establish That All Maine Residents Have Equal Rights Under the Law."

The proposed amendment would among other things, contain protections for “gender identity” similar to those included in the Maine Human Rights Act, a law used by Gov. Janet Mills (D-Maine), Attorney General Aaron Frey, and other officials to justify the inclusion of transgender-identifying males in women’s sports, locker rooms, and restrooms.

A majority of Maine and American citizens disagree.

I urge you to stand with the Minority Report on LD 260 and oppose the Majority Report as amended.

Thank you.
