The below is a community member's testimony. Feel free to use it, something of your own, or something as simple as "I support LD 775, and it "ought to pass." To get other wording ideas, as online testimony is submitted for this bill, you can see it here: https://legislature.maine.gov/ctl/SLG/03-24-2025?panel=0&time=1&sortdir=0&sortby=2 after clicking on the bill number.
I support LD 775 “An Act Requiring Voter Approval of Legislative and Gubernatorial Pay Increases.”
This bill requires that an increase in the annual salary of the Governor, the Senate, and House of Representatives must include the opportunity to be voted on by the legal voters of the state for approval/rejection.
This is common sense legislation. As a Maine taxpayer, I want the opportunity to determine if the governor or legislature deserve a pay increase. I never, and most likely, no employees ever unilaterally get to give themselves a raise. The fiscally responsible course of action is to put it to a Maine citizens vote.
I support LD 775 and it “ought to pass.”
