The below is a community member's testimony. Feel free to use it, something of your own, or something as simple as as "I oppose LDs 1109 and LD 1126 and they "ought not to pass." To get other wording ideas, as online testimony is submitted for this bill, you can see it here: https://legislature.maine.gov/ctl/JUD/03-26-2025?panel=0&time=1&sortdir=0&sortby=2 after clicking on the bill number.
I oppose LD 1109 “An Act to Reduce Gun Violence Casualties in Maine by Prohibiting the Possession of Large-capacity Ammunition Feeding Devices” and LD 1126 “An Act Requiring Serial Numbers on Firearms and Prohibiting Undetectable Firearms.”
Here we go again, another attempt at unconstitutional gun control. Another attack on law-abiding Maine citizens, and a direct violation of our Maine Constitutional rights, specifically Article 1, Section 16: “To keep and bear arms. Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned.” Maine is the safest state in the nation. I fail to see how these laws would make us “safer”. I oppose any bill intending to strip Maine citizens of our Constitutional rights.
Federal and state legislation and ATF “rules” are being repeatedly challenged in court, and support for the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution is being restored. The days of unconstitutional gun control laws, and attempts to enact them are over.
With that being said, LD 1109 is another reconstituted attempt at previously defeated gun control (i.e. 129th Maine Legislature, LD 1071 “An Act To Prohibit the Sale of High-capacity Magazines). It’s unconstitutional, and you know it.
I oppose unconstitutional LD 1109 and LD 1126, and they “ought not to pass.”
