Good morning, Senator/Representative [name]
I urge you to support LD 1974 "An Act to Affirm Parental Rights."
This bill provides that parents are the joint natural guardians of their minor children and are jointly entitled to the care, custody, control and services of their children. It also provides that the liberty of a parent to direct the upbringing, education and care of the parent's child is a fundamental right.
It's a shame we are at this point. But here we are. The legislature, school districts, and medical providers are intent on circumventing parental authority and direction, in an effort to make the kids into something their parents don’t necessarily agree with or totally oppose.
This is common sense legislation. If it takes a law to restore sanity and to ensure a parent’s authority over their child’s upbringing is restored, and the parent’s wishes are respected, so be it.
Please stand with LD 1974. Barring abuse or neglect, a child's upbringing lies with their parents, not the government, school, or medical providers.
